If Shoes Had Ears

At my weekly writers’ group, somebody recited a poem about shoes. Someone else mentioned another poem that featured earlobes. I decided that I would write a poem about shoes and ears. I spent all of five minutes on it. Enjoy.

If shoes had ears
They’d mark the years
In feet and yards and miles
If never worn
They’d grow forlorn
In messy closet piles
When worn, a shoe
Would listen to
Each toe’s outspoken word
Amidst the din
Of shouting ten
No single one is heard
